Common Questions

Understand the tower, improve your score, and make every move count.

How many stages and bosses are there?

The adventure includes 36 stages: 30 maze stages and 6 boss encounters. Clear the tower and reach the castle to rescue the princess.

The six bosses are Stone, Bat, Robot, Orc, Spider, and Skeleton. Boss encounters are inserted between maze floors, so the floor number on the HUD is not a separate count of all 36 stages.

How do I find a safe route to the Key and Exit?

Each maze has a route to the Key and a route to the Exit. Collect the Key before opening the Exit. Floors outside those two routes hide spike traps.

Crystal Floors mark where the two routes overlap. Items and gold coins are placed on safe floors, so their locations provide extra clues. A floor that is safe from spikes can still be dangerous if an enemy is nearby.

What do the numbers on the floors mean?

A number tells you how many surrounding floors contain hidden spikes. Compare nearby numbers with known safe floors to work out where traps could be, much like Minesweeper.

Combine several clues before committing to a move. A number is a trap count, not a direction marker or a distance to the Key.

Is the maze the same every time?

No. Maze layouts are generated randomly, rather than drawn from one fixed walkthrough. A new maze can have different routes, ladder connections, and clue positions.

Learn how to read the clues instead of memorizing a sequence of moves. Retrying the current floor can preserve its layout; a retry does not necessarily mean a newly generated maze.

How is my score calculated?

Collecting a gold coin gives 5 points. Collecting a heart gives 20 points, even when your hearts are already full. Defeating a regular enemy gives 20 points.

The Key has a base reward of 20 + (5 × floor number). Opening the Exit has a base reward of 10 + (5 × floor number). These two rewards decrease with the time spent on that floor.

For each reward: points = base reward × 60 ÷ (60 + elapsed seconds), rounded down, with a minimum of 1 point. Time is measured from the start of the floor, not from collecting the Key.

For example, on Floor 2 the Key base is 30 points and the Exit base is 20 points. If either objective is reached at 60 seconds, its reward is halved: 15 for the Key or 10 for the Exit. Retrying the same floor does not reset this timer.

How do I attack enemies and handle bosses?

Your weapon fires automatically when an enemy is directly in front of you and within range. Line up your position and facing direction instead of looking for an attack button.

Enemies have different movement patterns, weapons, and attack ranges. Watch their timing, use terrain to avoid attacks, and retreat when the approach is unsafe. Bosses require learning their own patterns; rushing directly at them is rarely the safest plan.

What is a good strategy for a first clear?

Start by locating visible clues: numbers, Crystal Floors, coins, and items. Work out a route to the Key, then plan the route to the Exit.

Use ladders to observe other levels and enemy movement before stepping onto an uncertain floor. Keep track of your weapon range and remaining items, and leave yourself a way to retreat.

Aim for a safe clear first. Once you can read the maze confidently, reduce unnecessary detours to improve the timed Key and Exit rewards.

Why does the game stutter on some devices?

Devices with 4 GB of RAM or less may experience stuttering. RAM is not the only factor: processor and graphics performance, available memory, device temperature, and background activity also affect play.

Close other demanding apps, let an overheated device cool down, and try restarting the game. If battery-saving mode is limiting performance, turning it off may help.

A small download does not mean the game uses the same small amount of memory while running. Graphics, animations, and the active maze need working memory during play.

What frame rate should I expect?

Frame rate can vary by device and by what is happening on screen. A high-refresh-rate display does not by itself guarantee that the game runs at that frame rate.

There is no guaranteed FPS figure for every device. If movement becomes uneven during effects or combat, try the memory and performance steps above.

Why is the download around 10 MB or less?

Ladder Maze uses compact pixel-art graphics and reusable tiles. Maze layouts are generated in code, so each floor does not need its own large, pre-rendered map asset.

Builds can be around 10 MB or less, but the exact download and installed size vary by platform and version. Installed storage and memory used during play are different measurements.

What should I try if the game freezes or will not open?

Close and reopen the game, then restart your device if needed. Check for an available game update, free up storage if your device is nearly full, and close other memory-heavy apps.

If the device is hot, let it cool before trying again. Avoid clearing app data or uninstalling as a first step, because locally stored records may be removed.
